Omaha Hi Low: Fundamental Summary

Thursday, December 31st, 2015

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of betting ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering ensues and then the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where some players often get confused. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the same approach in nearly every poker game.

The lower hand is more complex, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complex at the outset, after a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha hi low provides an exciting array of wagering options and seeing that you have numerous individuals trying for the high hand, along with many trying for the low hand. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is worth your time to play Omaha High-Low.

Web Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Sunday, December 6th, 2015

Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve last poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers around the world. While betting on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amt.. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world might be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?

The value of Poker Position

Tuesday, December 1st, 2015

Holdem is simply about people and position. All knowledgeable Hold’em enthusiasts concur that position in no restriction Hold’em is critically important. Showing your hole cards in last position might be certainly more profitable than in early poker position. This is due to the fact that much more data is amassed before acting.

As an example, I was playing a $1-$2 no limit money match at a local poker room. I limped in with 2, 9 unsuited on the croupier button, just to see a bit of excitement. Flop came down A-A-4. A bettor in early spot placed a $15 wager. Two entrants drop out and it was my turn. I really should have dropped out, but his play seemed a tiny bit odd. I identified this contender as a weak-tight individual, and typically if he held the number one hand he would simply check, so I called.

The turn arrived with a 7, meaning it was a A-A-4-7. My competitor made an additional wager of $20. I deliberated a tiny bit, but decided to re-raise a further $30thirty dollars over and above his $20. He folds and I take the money.

Betting at late spot allows you an insight into where you are positioned by watching how individuals behave and wager. On the flip side, enthusiasts at early position could use their poker spot to check-raise the last positioned aggressors and trap them afterwords at the end. In Holdem, both spots, late and early must be bet carefully.
