Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While gambling on internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found betting on online poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
