Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
