Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
