Focus on Annie Duke

October 5th, 2013 at 18:21

Annie Duke may not have captured her first WSOP Bracelet until ‘04 but she is still one of the most feared poker competitors at the ring games at The Bellagio in Las Vegas. Annie’s longawaited World Series of Poker bracelet came with a win at the "buried game" of Omaha hi/lo.

While competitors from the "younger crowd" of poker run wild following a big win at the tables, Annie heads home and becomes "mom" to her 4 children. She was born in New Hampshire and raised into a family of poker competitors. If you do not believe that, watch her brother, Howard Lederer, in action who taught her how to wager on the game.

However, Mrs. Duke is no small-potatoes girl and has captured her cut of challenging tables, including knocking out Howard a few times along the way. They’re both competitors that have the ability to capture the big cash and do so with a smile.

Annie Duke is a strong player at any table due to the fact that she is a real poker player, but it’s a bit more than just being skilled at the game. Mrs. Duke is incredibly intelligent and graduated from Columbia U where she majored in English and Psychology.

When you sit across from her at the table you know she is there to play the game and she starts "sizing" you up as soon as you sit down at the game table. If you can’t wager like a camp, then do not waste your time.

Acquiring over $3 million in tournament play, Mrs. Duke became a consultant to both the UltimateBet website and actor Ben Affleck, who was looking to sharpen his abilities and develop into a power at the tables.

You will likely glimpse her at the Bellagio, you’ll definitely observe Annie on the television and you might even play against her in a net poker match, but do not expect an easy win. Unless you are a champion-in-the-making, you will not beat her. Although, it would be fun to say you played at the same table as "The Duke".
