Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
