Web Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

December 18th, 2025 at 18:25

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve last poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world. While gambling on web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
