Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
