Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve last game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While wagering on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount.
