Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
