Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world might just be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in cash games?
